During the first minute of the show we see Melissa Young enter the flat through the front door as opposed to seeing her walk along the pavement to the front door of the building. The reason I think for starting the show within the flats instead is because the show is all about what goes on inside the block of flats and the fact that no one really knows the answer to this so by placing the viewer straight inside the flats it makes them feel more isolated from what goes on outside the flats.
As we continue to watch and see the new residents of the flat it becomes apparent that lines have changed whilst they are unpacking. In the script it mentions the fact that they are in a disabled parking bay but this is not mentioned in the show. This is probably because of the fact that it gets mentioned later on anyway so there would be no need to bring it up twice so they cut this bit out to save the audience from the repetition of this line.
Later on in the script there is a scene where Len is telling of his best and worst days in his job but this was cut completely from the show. I think this is due to the fact that it takes up a fair bit of screen time and as intriguing as the story is it doesn't really contribute to the actual plot much at all so the scene was cut from the show so they didn't waste the screen time they were given.
There was also another few lines that were cut from the show which involved a short conversation between Joe and Michael when Joe gives Michael a flat tyre. The reason I think this was cut was because it seems like a very pointless and rather childish action on Joe's behalf and doesn't seem to have much point to it, although it does show the type of person the Joe is in not showing that it is withholding information about Joe's character so that suspicions can raise and without given away too much information on each character.
There has even been a lot more changed within the show compared to the original script but these are a few of them and demonstrate the point of how and they might have been cut when it eventually came to filming these and it appears there are similar story's behind each of them and it's important to know that sometimes these changes are necessary in order to achieve the final product.
This is really good jack. You have identified that the screen version is more economical and cuts out unnecessary stuff - if it does not develop the plot or add to understanding of character it is not necessary. Well done.
